Anxiety has gripped Wajir residents ahead of the Supreme Court ruling on the county's gubernatorial petition on Friday.
Supporters of Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud and former Governor Ahmed Abdullahi are holding their breath ahead of the verdict.
The Wajir gubernatorial petition has attracted close attention from residents and outsiders.
The petition is unique because the High Court and the Court of Appeal had earlier ruled in favor of the petitioner.
In 2018, the two courts nullified the election of Governor Abdi on grounds of alleged massive irregularities.
The courts also claimed the governor's academic papers could not be autheticated.
Governor Abdi, however, rushed to the Supreme Court to appeal the decision of the appellate court.
There has been a public outcry from a section of Wajir politicians and residents over what they had termed as delay by the Supreme Court to hear and determine the petition.
Lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi is among people who have bashed the Chief Justice (CJ) David Maraga-led court for allegedly delaying ruling on the petition.
The apex court has, however, denied delaying the petition, noting that it is still within the 90 days' period for hearing and determining the petition.
According to political analyst Peter Ngure, the Supreme Court can either uphold the election of Governor Abdi or go by the Court of Appeal's decision that nullified his election.
The analyst says Wajir residents will go to the gubernatorial by-election in case the apex court upholds the ruling by the Court of Appeal.
He (Ngure), however, states that Governor Abdi will continue to serve if the court quashes the ruling by the appellate court.
"Wajir residents should be prepared for the judgement whichever way it goes," the analyst said on Tuesday.
The Supreme court has made verdicts on 24 gubernatorial election petitions so far.
