Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga has for the first time taken a direct swipe at McDonald Mariga, few days to Kibra poll.
Over 118,000 Kibra residents will pick a new MP on Thursday next week, barely three months after the death of Ken Okoth.
The contest has narrowed down to ODM and Jubilee. The ruling party fielded McDonald Mariga while ODM picked Imran Okoth, a brother to Ken.
While addressing Abagusii community on Friday, Mr Odinga defended his time as area MP which lasted for 20 years, seemingly blaming Jubilee for slowed upgrading of Kibra.
"I brought Kibaki here and we launched slum upgrading. Ferdinand Waititu had blocked us in court. We however, managed to build a few houses and the goverment has the plan," he said.
Mr Odinga criticised Mariga's manifesto, arguing that it does not address anything new to the people of Kibra. He dismissed him as unlearned.
"And now they are bring you someone who is not properly schooled. How will he even understand? Reject that trash," he said
The former Prime Minister insisted that Kibra people will block non ODM contestants, arguing that they understand only ODM can solve their challenges.
Odinga was accompanied by Governors James Ongwae, John Nyagarama, ODM Treasurer Timothy Bosire and Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati among others.
