Police in Kisii have launched a manhunt for a man accused of molesting his underage niece.
The incident is reported to have occurred on Friday at Kionduso, Nyacheki in Kisii County. Confirming the incident, area chief Hezra Ombati said the suspect, Emmanuel Mekenye, is accused of luring his 14-year-old niece into his house where he molested her. “Mekenye lured his niece into his house on Friday evening where he raped her before he was caught by the girl’s mother who reported the incident,” said Ombati.The chief said that Makenye escaped after officers were sent to his to arrest him.He called on residents to cooperate and surrender any information that may lead to the suspect’s arrest, in a bid to ensure justice is served.“The suspect escaped into a nearby bushy tea farm when he saw police officers at his compound. The niece revealed that she was given Sh300 by the suspect before he convinced her to enter into his bedroom where he raped her,” said the chief.He further warned residents against engaging in such criminal acts, noting that the behaviour will not be condoned in the area.Ombati noted that his office will be on high alert to arrest men engaging in illicit sexual affairs with underage girls.
