Residents of Wendo, Karunga, Thayu and Ngecha Farm in Kabatini, Bahati sub-county have raised an alarm over increased cases of cattle theft in the areas.
Addressing media on Thursday during a security meeting in the area, residents called on the government to beef up security.
This came after several cattle were stolen and later discovered that they were transported and slaughtered inside a farm owned by ex-President Mwai Kibaki.
Residents suspect there is a cartel that is working with butchers in the area to steal cattle.
George Makena, whose two cows were stolen on Wednesday night, said there is no action from police after a theft is reported.
“We need security beefed up in this area,” said Mr. Makena.
Business community chairman in the area James Mwangi said several shops at Kabatini centre have also been broken into.
“We are now living in fear as business people and we hope the government will help address this issue by beefing up patrol,” said Mwangi.
Area Chief Gikungu Mwangi called on the residents to remain calm as security apparatus address the issue.
Area MCA Peter Ng’anga promised to raise the matter with the police.
“We want to engage security apparatus to ensure this menace is addressed once so that our people can go on with their daily businesses. It is painful that the security team say they know those behind the crimes but they have not arrested anyone,” said MCA Ng’ang’a.
