Kamanda introduced Imran to members of the Kikuyu community who reportedly pledged to support him in the November 7 polls.

"Jubilee Nominated MP Maina Kamanda led Imran’s campaign this afternoon by hosting a delegation of members from the Gikuyu community in Kibra for meeting our candidate. The delegates said they only know one candidate and that is Bernard Otieno Okoth Imran," read a post by ODM.

Kamanda last week denounced his party's candidate McDonald Mariga and vowed to campaign hard for Imran who he branded as the 'handshake candidate'.

If Imran gets the backing of the Kikuyus, it will be a major boost for the aspirant seeking to clinch the seat left vacant following the death of his brother Ken Okoth.

Of the total registered 118 276 voters in Kibra, Kikuyus are estimated to be about 20, 000.

Political analyst Martin Andati has noted tribal arithmetic will be a major factor which will determine the outcome of the by-election.

"There are three factors, one is the Luhya factor which is 40 per cent. Then there is the Okoth factor. People want someone who will articulate issues the way the late MP did and then there is the manifesto of the candidate,” said Andati who is also vying on the Modern Alliance Party ticket.
