In an interview on Radio Maisha's 'Bunge La Maisha' on Thursday morning, Memusi expressed his doubts about Deputy President William Ruto's presidential ambitions.

According to the legislator, the Deputy President will have it hard ascending to the seat, adding that he might not achieve the bid at all, basing on the nation's political history.

"Kulingana na historia yetu hakuna naibu was rais aliyeweza kupata urais katika uchaguzi, ni Rais Moi tu naye alipata tu kwa sababu ya kifo cha Jomo Kenyatta.

(We do not have a history of Deputy Presidents succeeding their bosses, the case is only unique to retired President Moi whose ascent can only be attributed to the death of President Kenyatta)," he said.

Memusi further called for political calm, terming it immature for politicians to engage in succession politics at the moment.

He urged Ruto to calm his camp which is growing excited over his candidature, advising him to instead concentrate on aiding President Uhuru Kenyatta in delivering on their campaign promises.

"Naibu was Rais anafaa atulie na kufanya kazi, wananchi wenyewe wataamua hatima yake (let Ruto calm down and concentrate on service delivery, the decision to choose the president lies in the hands of Kenyans)," he added.

Ruto is expected to vie on the ruling Jubilee party ticket.
