Kisii County women representative Janet Ong'era has asked widows to stop accepting irresponsible men to inherit them.
According to the lawmaker, widows should be inherited by responsible men who can provide for their families and not just seek for sex.
"It is time for any widow who wants a man by her side to chose one who can provide for the children and cater for her needs," she said.
The MP called on elders to ensure men inheriting widows are not infected with HIV/Aids.
"Our elders should play their role we don't want to see a situation where sick men are forcing themselves on our widows to infect them with diseases," she added.
She said she will empower widows using the Action Affirmative funds to help them start small businesses to provide for their families.
Ong'era was speaking on Sunday at Nyamasibi area in Nyaribari Masaba constituency, Kisii County.
