The programme between the Nairobi county government and Brookside will see the pupils get free milk twice a week.

According to Governor Sonko, the programme aims at keeping pupils in school and also keeping them healthy.

Speaking when he launched the programme at Martin Luther Primary school in Makadara on Friday, Sonko also promised to launch free feeding programmes in all city public primary and secondary schools.

He noted that many students fail to go to school and also perform poorly in national examinations because they don't get food.

"We are going to partner with stakeholders and make sure that the standards of education in Nairobi are impoved," he said.

Sonko promised to construct more ECD centers in the city before the end of the year.

He also promised to hire over 500 ECD teachers.

Meanwhile, Governor Sonko has put on notice land grabbers who have allegedly grabbed land belonging to schools.

He said that his government is investigating cases where school land has been taken by politicians and business tycoons.

"We will not spare anyone who has stolen public land and they should return the public property before we get to them," he said.
