A section of Kikuyu elders from Rift Valley has rubbished the deliberations made by their counterparts in Nyeri recently on Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 bid.
The Kikuyu elders during their meeting in Nyeri last week warned leaders promising DP Ruto votes from the Kikuyu community.
They called on Ruto to stop early campaigns and respect President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Wednesday Kiama Kia Ma elders led by their spokesperson Kigochi Wa Wamiri and Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri, they dismissed claims by a section of the media that the meeting had the blessings of top government officials.
“The meeting was convened by leaders opposed to the Deputy President William Ruto and their opinions can’t be taken as the political position of the Kikuyu community,” said Kigochi.
They said the elders who attended the meeting were not genuine Kikuyu elders and don’t speak for the interest of the community.
“Deputy President William Ruto has the right to campaign and move anywhere in the country without seeking any permission from anyone whatsoever since he is a Kenyan just like any other Kenyan,” added Ngunjiri.
The leaders asked the International Criminal Court (ICC) to start investigating political leaders who have started inciting Kenyans along tribal lines.
