Garissa Governor Ali Korane has condemned the killing of two non-locals by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.
The governor said that the police need to ensure that those behind the terrorist attack are pursued and brought to book as soon as possible.
Speaking during the launch of the Horn of Africa eradication of polio initiative Mr Korane asked Kenyans to not allow Al-Shabaab to thrive and divide them.
The governor said that the terrorist group is pushing for disunity among Kenyans who have been living peacefully.
“They want to wage war on grounds of faith and ethnicity. We will not allow this. Kenyans from other parts of the country will be part and parcel of our communities. No one will divide us,” he said.
The governor urged the government to work closely with county leaders and residents in the fight against terrorism.
“Am urging the security forces to work together with the locals and political and religious leaders in fighting terrorists who want to divide Kenya along ethnic and religious lines,” he added.
Governor Korane was speaking following the attack by Al-Shabaab gunmen who ambushed a bus in Garissa County.
The militants flagged down the bus at Handaro, which is between Ijara and Sangailu towns and started profiling the passengers who were in the bus.
Witnesses said about seven terrorists attacked the bus while armed with AK 47 rifles and killed two non-locals.
