President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday caused a buzz online after he made a remark touching on controversial leader Robert Gabriel Mugabe.
While speaking during the African Peer Review Mechanism function at State House, President Kenyatta said Kenyans from all political divide should co-exist.
He said he was shocked by some quarters who want him to ignore those who did not vote for him in the 2017 presidential race.
While responding to the concern, Uhuru drew parallels to a response Zimbabwe’s ex-president once gave to a reporter.
“A reporter once asked President Mugabe, when are you going to let people of Zimbabwe go, and he asked where are they going … even today I ask them same question when I am told let those people from the other side go, don’t deal with them … so I am asking where are they going?” Uhuru said amid laughter from those attending the function.
The quote, which is associated with Mugabe but we cannot authoritatively say if it actually is his, is among quotes shoved online by parody Robert Mugabe quotes page.
Kenyans were amused that the President also read the online quotes which are usually hilarious if not laced with sexual undertones.
Some netizens also interpreted Uhuru’s remark to mean that he is not about to leave power.
