Nominated Member of Parliament Maina Kamanda on Thursday met Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga at his Capitol Hill offices, Nairobi.
The lawmaker in a video shared on Twitter by Citizen TV said that he has thrown his weight behind ODM’s Imran Karan ahead of the Kibra by-election.
He, however, said that he has made the decision at his personal levels and not on behalf of his party, Jubilee.
Kamanda also highlighted that Imran is the ideal candidate for the seat.
He further said that he is fully behind the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila.
“I am here in my personal capacity...The Handshake brought us harmony and peace in the country.. As Jubilee we have a candidate but as a person, I will be with the ODM candidate…I am here to stand with the candidate nominated by ODM Imran Okoth” the MP said as quoted in a tweet by Citizen TV.
The endorsement comes hours after Uhuru formally unveiled Football Star McDonald Mariga to contest for the seat.
Uhuru who is Jubilee's party leader said he is fully behind Mariga.
"The President wished Mr Mariga, who was accompanied by Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju, success in the contest and assured him of his full backing,” State House confirmed.
Deputy President William Ruto, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and Jubilee Party Chief Whip Benjamin Washiali were also present during Mariga's visit to State House.
