There was confusion at Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home in Machakos town on Wednesday after a body went missing.
A family from Masii in Mwala sub-county had gone to the morgue to pick their kin's body for burial only to find out that it was missing.
The family members were shocked after they were told that the body of Samuel Mulei Kioko was released for burial on Friday, last week.
It has now emerged that a family from Kasunguni in Makueni County had buried the body unknowingly last week.
“The body had an identification tag as required and had been in the morgue for over a week. We are wondering how it ended up with the other family since on collection of a body from the mortuary there must be a family team that identifies their body. We thought we will have the burial today but things have turned out otherwise," said Stephen Kilai who spoke on behalf of the family.
Machakos DCIO Rose Kishama took in some of the morgue attendants for questioning.
She, however, declined to address the media, noting that she needs to collect all the relevant information first before commenting on the matter.
After several consultations, the family got a court order to exhume the body of their kin.
