National soccer team Harambee Stars Captain Victor Wanyama came from the bench as his Tottenham Hotspurs side lost to Liverpool in an English Premier League match played at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday, September 15, 2018.
Victor Wanyama was introduced in the match in the 83rd minute, replacing Englishman Eric Dier.
Wanyama could not however save his side from defeat as Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino scored for Liverpool in the 39th and 54th minute respectively for the Reds to collect maximum points.
Eric Lamela scored a consolation goal for Spurs towards the end of the match. It was Wanyama’s first game this season, after suffering a knee injury last month, a few days before the 2018/2019 season kicked off.
He recently missed AFCON qualification match between Kenya's Harambee Stars against Ghana.
Tottenham’s starting lineup featured the likes of Michel Vorm; Kieran Tripper, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose; Harry Winks, Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele; Christian Eriksen; Lucas Moura, Harry Kane.
The bench included Paulo Gazzaniga, Victor Wanyama, Son Heung-Min, Erik Lamela, Serge Aurier, Ben Davies, Davinson Sanchez.
Liverpool’s first 11 consisted of Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson; James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum, Naby Keita; Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane.
The players who were on the bench were Simon Mignolet, Xherdan Shaqiri, Daniel Sturridge, Alberto Moreno, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip.
