Mr Chebukati grilled the IEBC officer who issued the former Harambee Stars forward with an acknowledgement slip, seeking to know why the signature was missing.

"You have witnessed but there is no signature of the applicant, " Wafula Chebukati said.

The IEBC officer said that he had realised that the signature was missing long after the governing Jubilee candidate had left the Kariokor Social Hall where the registration is said to have happened.

"That is an oversight that we realised after we had already issued the acknowledgement slip and the ID.The client had already left, " the IEBC officer said.

Mr Chebukati pushed the officer to explain whose mistake it was that Mariga had not appended his signature on the application form.

In his defence, the officer said he could not tell whose mistake it was as he had already indicated to the applicant using an x-mark where to sign.

Mariga was disqualified this week from running in the Kibra parliamentary race after the constituency's returning officer could not locate his name on the voters register.

He appealed the disqualification, an appeal which is being heard by the IEBC conflict resolution tribunal.
