The court has adjourned the pre-trial conference in the corruption case facing former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero.
This is after lawyers representing Kidero and ten others lashed out at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission over failure to supply them with witness statements as ordered by the court.
Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi suspended the proceedings and ordered EACC to comply with the court order within seven days.
Kidero alongside ten other persons were accused of attempting to defraud Nairobi county Sh213 million shillings. They were freed on stringent bond terms, the much-anticipated case against them failed to kick off at the Milimani law courts.
The defence lawyers opposed the pre-trial conference which was meant to fix hearing dates arguing that by doing so, the court would be infringing on the rights of the accused.
Mugambi directed EACC to serve all the suspects with required documents including original witness statements ahead of August 29.
Kidero is accused alongside other former county officials including Lilian Wanjiru, Jimmy Kiamba, Gregory Mwakanongo, Stephen Osiro, Luke Gatimu, John Njogu and Grace Githua.
