Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, on Saturday met former President Daniel Arap Moi on his first day tour of the larger Rift Valley region.
Accompanied by Moi's son, Baringo County Senator Gideon Moi, Joho held talks with Moi as he sought political blessings from the country's second president.
The Mombasa governor's visit in the region will see him attend various fundraisers in Samburu and Baringo counties, a region believed to be Deputy President William Ruto's backyard days after the DP pitched tent in the Coast.
Hosted by Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda, Joho is expected preside over a fundraiser for the construction of a mosque (Alsalam Mosque) in Maralal, Samburu County on Saturday, before presiding over another fundraiser at Churo Girl's Secondary School in Churo/Amaya ward, Baringo County on Sunday.
Joho was flanked by several ODM MPs; Teddy Mwambire - Ganze, Changamwe - Omar Mwinyi, Mishi Mboko - Likoni, Florence Mutua - Busia Woman Rep, Harub Khatri - Mombasa County Assembly Speaker, while KANU Secretary-General, Nick Salat accompanied his boss, Gideon Moi.
Joho-Moi meeting comes months after Gedion Moi visited Joho in Mombasa on May 31, this year raising speculations over Joho and Moi's presidential ambitions in 2022.
Moi who is a political nemesis to Deputy President William Ruto, also seeks to vie for presidency as well, and could be seeking coastal region's support through Joho, Ruto's political rival.
Joho could as well be seeking Mzee Moi's blessings besides working with his son to shut Ruto's presidential ambitions.
Few months ago, Ruto unsuccessfully tried to meet Mzee Moi at his Kabarak home.
