A woman is currently fighting for her life at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital after she allegedly caught her husband red-handed with a sex worker in their matrimonial bed.
The incident happened on Wednesday in Gekano village, Manga in Nyamira County.
Confirming the incident, area assistant chief Tom Ombui said the woman identified as Stella Kwamboka, a tomato vendor, returned home from the market earlier than expected.
She left for her house where she caught her husband in the act with another woman.
"Kwamboka returned home at 2 pm when she found her husband in bed with a sex worker who works at a local bar. Her attempt to attack the two went in vain because they overpowered her," said the chief.
Ombui said an infuriated Kwamboka picked a bottle filled with poison and consumed it with the intention to take away her life.
"Neighbours managed to take away the poison before she could drink the whole bottle and rushed her to Tombe hospital from where she was referred to KTRH," he stated.
He said the victim's husband has since gone into hiding due to shame.
The chief urged married men to be faithful in marriage.
