A baby's cry can be frustrating for mothers especially when they are busy. Some parents use pacifiers to soothe their babies and provide them with comfort.
It's true a pacifier can come in handy more so to new mothers but as much as they are helpful, they can be harmful.
Here are the disadvantages of using a pacifier on your baby;
1. Prolonged pacifier use tampers with baby's dental formula
When a baby uses a pacifier for long, it causes problems with the alignment of the teeth, changes in the shape of the roof of the mouth and proper growth of the mouth.
2. Can cause ear infection(Otitis media)
Long use of a pacifier can cause the auditory tubes to open abnormally thus allowing secretions from the throat into the middle ear.
3. Overdependence
A baby that uses a pacifier frequently may become over-dependent on it. This means that anytime he or she doesn't have it, cries will rent the air.
If this happens the parent should be ready to be woken up at night by cries if the pacifier falls off the baby's mouth.
4. Increases mothers odds to resuming ovulation
Nursing your baby is a natural birth control reason why some women resume their periods when they start weaning their kids. If your kid uses a pacifier you may breastfeed less thus ovulating earlier meaning if you are not on any birth control you may find yourself pregnant.
