Buzeki who unsuccessfully vied against governor Jackson Mandago in 2017 further dismissed claims that DP Ruto believed to be his close ally was at the centre of his bid.

Speaking during an interview on Milele FM's breakfast show on Tuesday, the billionaire businessman revealed that he actually surprised the DP when he joined the race.

He said DP Ruto was not even aware of his plans and was surprised to see him in the August 8 campaign trail.

"Mimi hakuna aliyenituma na hata Ruto mwenyewe alishangaa kuniona nikiwania kiti maana hajanijua kama mwanasiasa bali mfanyabiashara. (I was no one's project and Ruto himself was shocked to see me campaigning as he only knows me as a businessman)," said Buzeki.

He termed it unrealistic that anybody would consider him somebody else's project, questioning why DP Ruto at one point in Eldoret urged him to stand down for incumbent governor Jackson Mandago if he was his (Ruto's) project.

Buzeki further pointed out that the county chief seat demands a lot of sacrifices, which one cannot be forced into making if not out of will.

"Ugavana sio kitu rahisi cha kutumwa na mtu ukakifanye (this is not something one can be forced into doing)," he added while also hinting at taking another shot at the post in the approaching 2022 general polls.
