A middle-aged woman is yet to come into terms after she lost her Sh3,000 to a conman.
The incident happened on Tuesday evening at Nyamboga village in Nyatieko, Mosocho in Kisii County.
Confirming the incident area chief Lawrence Omari said the conman who identified himself as Boaz Moenga stormed Gladys Nyabonyi's homestead and demanded Sh5,000.
"The suspect claimed he was an officer when he threatened to arrest Nyabonyi who is also a widow. He demanded for Sh5,000 but, since Nyabonyi could not afford the money she gave Sh3,000 which she had saved to do Christmas shopping," she Omari.
The chief added that the man then escaped to a neighbouring sugarcane farm after tricked Nyabonyi that he was conducting a crackdown on illicit brews.
"Nyabonyi has never sold illicit brew. It is not clear why the impostor threatened to arrest her yet she has never engaged in illicit brew business," he noted.
He assured that a manhunt has been launched to nab the suspect.
The chief urged members of the public to be vigilant not to be conned by lazy men.
Reached for a comment, Nyabonyi said she gave Sh3,000 because the suspect wanted to handcuff her.
She expressed confidence that the conman will be apprehended so that she can get back her money.
