Schools in Kisumu County are set to benefit from free Internet after Airtel Kenya, Computers for Schools Kenya and the County government signed a partnership.
In the partnership, thirty schools will be connected to the free internet.
Kisumu County Executive for ICT Dr Obiero Ogone presided over the event together with a number of county officials.
Speaking during the event, The ICT Executive noted that he was happy with the initiative that was meant to improve learning activities in the county and the region at large.
“I applaud Airtel for taking the initiative to empower our students with knowledge and educational material by giving free access to the internet. This move is definitely a step in the right direction in ensuring that our students perform better as they will have access to numerous forms of information and opportunities.”Dr Obiero said as quoted by KBC.
The Airtel boss, on his part, appreciated the importance of Internet in the education sector, and underscored the company's plan to ensure more schools are connected.
“In the education sector, Internet use and adaptation to the rapidly emerging technological advancements cannot be overlooked. Therefore as a company, we deem it fit to ensure that students all over the country gain access to the Internet and thus be able to glean from the numerous benefits and learning tools that come with it," the Airtel statement read in part as quoted by KBC.
