A cloud of grief and shock engulfed Muambani village, in Masinga sub-county, Machakos County on Friday after an 8-year-old boy committed suicide.

The class one pupil at Muambani Primary School hanged himself on a tree near their home. 

The incident was confirmed by Muthesya chief Philip Mutua who said that no one knows why the little boy killed himself.

The chief noted that the boy had returned home from school before taking his own life.

"There's a young boy who hanged himself in Muambani village. He is said to have done so after coming from school. His grandfather was at home during the time of the incident," said Mutua. 

Mutua said the boy lived with his grandfather who has been questioned by the police to help in the investigations.

The body of the deceased was picked by police and taken to the Matuu Mediance mortuary.

"We notified the police who came and took the body. The boy's grandfather was also taken in for interrogation," said Mutua.
