President Uhuru Kenyatta is definitely not a happy man after a section of Ukambani leaders allied to Jubilee snubbed Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma's homecoming party.
In what political analysts may term as a protest over her appointment, 25 Members of the National Assembly failed to show up during the event held at Nuu Secondary School in Kitui County on Saturday.
The event was attended by a number of guests including Dr. Juma’s colleagues Cecily Kariuki (Health) and Simon Chelugui (Water) and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet.
Among the lawmakers who missed the event are Jubilee MPs Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town), Rachel Nyamai (Kitui South) and Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East).
The CS was accompanied to the event by her husband, Prof Peter Kagwanja, and former Equity Bank chairman Peter Munga.
A section of leaders who spoke to the media on condition of anonymity said Juma does not represent their interests in government.
Former Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu said the lawmakers' failure to attend the event cannot be taken lightly.
“All the region's MPs can’t be wrong. The widespread boycott has sent a clear message about the community’s stand on Cabinet appointments,” Mutambu said.
