The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has responded to widespread concern over the safety records of a number of aviation companies in the country.

An investigation has also been opened into the mishaps that the operators have been involved in.

Silverstone whose planes were involved in a number of incidences has had its entire Dash 8 fleet suspended.

The licences of other operators including Safe Air and Adventure Aloft have been suspended.

A tire had fallen off a Silverstone plane a few weeks ago just as it was beginning to take off in Lodwar.

There was a chorus for action to be taken after a Silverstone plane was forced to land after developing issues.

In the wake of the Lodwar incident, Silverstone said in a statement that it was taking with seriousness the safety of its passengers.

It denied that its planes suffered from a systemic safety issue.

The Director General of Silverstone confirmed in the wake of the incident that a probe was being undertaken by KCCA.

“KCAA is currently carrying out an audit inspection on the airline after various air incidents and an accident involving Silverstone Air Services,” said Gilbert Kibe.

“The audit is being performed in order to determine the level of compliance with the current civil aviation regulations and their own company approved manuals and procedures,” he added.
