Four people have died, and 67 others admitted in hospital with stomach complications after eating at a feast at Ruirii village in Kieni, Nyeri County.The food which was eaten at the dowry function was reportedly brought in by caterers from Kitengela.However, a section of the visitors who attended the function began complaining of stomach complications on Saturday, some of whom have been admitted in hospital.County Director of Medical Services Dr Nelson Muriu said the county has intensified surveillance to tame the situation, adding that among those admitted is the groom's mother."The patient at KNH has tested negative for cholera and is being treated for food poisoning," he told the Nation on Monday, in reference to the groom's mother.He added that one person is being treated at the Othaya Level Four Hospital, and the others in several hospitals spread across the country.“We have set up a temporary health unit at Kariminu dispensary to offer medical services as we map out areas that the attendees came from,” he added.
Reports on Citizen Digital indicate that Muguga Member of County Assembly (MCA) Joseph Nderitu is among those receiving treatment after participating in the feast.
