While Meru leaders under Governor Muthomi Njuki have pledged to work with Ruto, the elders have however shifted alliance to Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

Led by Pro Albert Mugambi and David Gituma, they said their support to Moi is unstoppable.

“We are ready and we were even before. It is only that we had not met you, these are blessings and we here to assure you of our support,” said Gachaura James Mirienga, who serves as a supreme council member of Njuri Ncheke.

He added: "Be tough and stand firm, we are here to bless you and we will take care of you just as former President Daniel Moi took care of the Ameru community."

While Mt. Kenya East is jostling for deputy president post, those from Central Kenya have also expressed similar interests.

At the Nakuru meeting on Saturday, they insisted the Moi was a better choice.

“We respect you, we are together and we will support you. We will not make noise but we are working and when your time comes, knock and the door will be opened,” said Gituma.

Both Moi and Ruto have expressed intentions to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

In several occasions, the two leaders have openly clashed with Moi reportedly blocking Ruto from meeting his father, retired President Daniel Moi in May.
