Kanui was found dead on his bed at his home in Kakuyuni on Wednesday.

Kangundo sub-county police commander Benjamin Ong'ombe confirmed the incident.

He said that the cause of the former MCA's death is still a mystery.

However, he confirmed that the police had begun investigations into the incident.

"He said that the deceased's wife heard him groaning in pain and rushed to call a pastor to pray for him but on coming back they found him already dead," said Ong'ombe.

The police boss said that autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

"It could be a case of choking but we can't speculate until a post-mortem is conducted," he said.

His body was taken to Kangundo Hospital mortuary before the family transferred it to a private mortuary in Machakos.

Kanui served as Kangundo West Member of County Assembly from 2013 to 2017.
