Private petrol distributors across the country have gone on strike over the increased fuel prices. The strike is in solidarity with other motorists.
This is as the result of the 16 per cent of Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol. Trucks owned by the distributors have remained parked at deports for the whole of Monday.
The distributors want the tax increment on petrol to be scrapped off and have vowed to continue striking until their concern is addressed.
The Kenya Independent Petroleum Distributors Association (KIPEDA) boycott comes after a statement by Kenya motorists calling upon its members to resist the increased fuel price.
This they said through their Chairman Peter Murima.
‘’We, therefore, wish to call upon motorists to again express their anger tomorrow Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th and if possible Wednesday by boycotting fuel and participating in a strike of not going to work in the morning as much as possible,” Murima told the Citizen Digital.
Deputy President William Ruto has promised Kenyans that the concerns regarding rise of fuel price shall be looked at and resolved.
The tax increment has since seen the cost of travelling throughout the nation shoot up since the start of its implementation on September 1.
