Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has slammed Nairobi County government over late night demolition.
This comes after bulldozers demolished several houses on Monday night at Pangani estate leaving tenants in the cold.
In a tweet, Passaris said that she was surprised to note that a number of women and children spent in the cold after late night demonstration.
She further said that it was a regrettable that institutions intended to protect people were the ones going against them.
"Baffled to hear that women and children slept in the cold because their houses were demolished in the middle of the night by institutions that are supposed to protect them. Even if cheques were issued, why go at night? The County Gov. shouldn't go against its people like thief!" Passaris tweeted.
According to Nation, bulldozers are reported to have arrived at around 11:30pm, breaking up windows and doors while people were asleep.
This forced residents to scamper for safety as the demolition exercise that had caught them unawares continued for the better part of the night.
Pangani Estate is one of the seven Nairobi estates that have been selected for developing.
Others are Ngong Road phases I and II, Uhuru Estate, New Ngara, Old Ngara, Suna Road, and Jeevanjee.
