Uasin Gishu County Executive in charge of Finance and Economic Planning Julius Ruto, on Thursday tabled before the County Assembly the budget estimates for the Financial Year 2018/19.

Ruto outlined Infrastructure, Water, Agriculture, and Education as among the key sectors that will be emphasized on in the coming financial year. 

He presented a Sh8.4 billion budget that will be financed by Sh5.9 billion from the equitable shareable revenue, Sh1.2 billion from local revenue and Sh1.2 billion from the conditional grants. 

Here is the highlight of the budget; 

Infrastructure; 

Sh186 million was proposed to be allocated for roads construction and maintenance, Sh15 million for construction of bridges and a further Sh5 million for street lighting. 

Water; 

Sh333 million will be used to purchase water equipment and machinery, Sh124 million to be used on construction and rehabilitation of community water project, and Sh4 million for boreholes drilling. 

It was proposed that Sh193 million be used for the purchase of machinery and equipment for solid waste management, and Sh3 million to be used for the fencing of Sosiani River Nature Park. 

Agriculture and Rural Development got Sh294 million

Construction of High Capacity stores Sh15 million, Purchase of pesticides Sh15 million, purchase of assorted seedlings to promote diversification Sh15 million, and Sh5 million for the supply of acaricides. 

Artificial Insemination (AI) services were allocated Sh10 million same to Livestock vaccination. 

Sh82 million was allocated for the construction of markets, modern stores and bodaboda sheds.Sh100 million will be used to construct governor and deputy governor’s residence while Sh16.6 million has been set aside for the renovation and civil work for county estates. 

Health; Sh114 million for completion of Sub County Health Facilities and Sh183 million for the purchase of drugs and medical supplies.

Education; 

Sh95 million to be used on bursaries, Sh80.7 million for improving Vocational Training Institutes workshops and Sh55 million for the County Education Revolving Fund. 

The County Assembly will be holding a special sitting on Friday to debate on the proposed budget and subsequently approve, with or without amendments.
