Police in Migori county are holding two lawyers over fraud allegations.
The two are accused of participating in defrauding the South Nyanza (SONY) Sugar Company of millions of shillings through fake litigation.
The two, Njeru Nyaga and Samuel Odingo were nabbed on Wednesday evening and detained at the Migori Police Station while being processed for arraignment.
Migori County Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the arrests said that the duo used fake documents to win a case pitting the company and its cane farmers.
He said that the legal practitioners have been representing cane farmers whose contracts for the harvesting of the crop had been breached by the company.
He said that his office found out that some of the documents and names of cane farmers are fake, after finding out that some of the said farmers died some time back.
The duo will be arraigned at the Kisii Law Courts on Thursday, the investigations boss told the Citizen Digital.
This comes at a time when the Awendo-based factory is facing ups and downs with regards to its operations, including shortage of cane.
This is as a result of cane poaching by surrounding private factories which pay the farmers almost immediately.
