A suspected bhang user on Thursday admitted using the illegalised drug before an Embu court.
The 34-year-old man, however, said that he only takes the drug to enable him to excel in his job as a latrine and borehole digger.
Appearing before Embu Chief Magistrate Maxwell Gicheru, Joseph Mukindi Njeru also pleaded guilty to charges of being in possession of bhang, reports the Citizen Digital.
Mukundi was charged that he was on August 14, 2018, arrested with 16 rolls of bhang, approximated to value at Kshs1, 600 at Kianjoma.
He, however, denied that he intended to peddle the drugs, claiming that it was for his own consumption, noting that the nature of his work demands some motivation which he finds in the product.
He noted that with his job sometimes entailing going several feet below the ground, he needs to consume bhang to keep cool while underground.
He, however, countersued the police, alleging that they assaulted him during the arrest, hence causing him bodily harm.
Consequently, Magistrate Gicheru ordered Manyatta Police Station OCS to appear before him with a full report regarding the allegations, as he released the accused on a Ksh50, 000 bond with a surety of a similar amount.
He is expected back in court on August 30, 2018.
