Residents of Borangi village in Nyacheki, Kisii county were on Monday left in rude shock after a 50-year-old man was caught having sex with his granddaughter.
Locals said Robert Omweri has been living with the granddaughter for the past one year after her mother died.
"Omweri has been taking care of the granddaughter for the past one year after her mother died. I went to check on him and request him to come and help me harvest maize when I busted him naked with the granddaughter having sex in his bedroom,” said Erick Bichanga.
Bichanga said he raised alarm to attract members of the public who came and beat up the man for having illicit sex with the girl.
Area Chief, John Metobo said upon questioning, the girl said this was the third time her grandfather was having sex with her.
“I wish to condemn the man for taking advantage of the girl she has been living with to lure her into sex. Such men should not be condoned in the village,” he said.
Metobo said the man was taken to Nyacheki police station waiting to be charged in court.
He called on parents and guardians to stop misusing young girls by having illicit sex with them.
