Harambee Stars captain Victor Mugubi Wanyama has mourned Kenya's exit from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
Wanyama said it was the dream of Harambee Stars' players to go through to the round of 16 but the efforts of the team came short.
"It’s been our dreams to participate in this special tournament. Obviously we wanted to do well and go through the next stage but we fell short, we have learned a lot and that’s the key,the lesson we have learned here, we can only get better.
"Thanks to all the fans who have been behind us since we started our journey. #onwardsandupwards, "Wanyama posted on Facebook.
Kenya was bundled out of the AFCON tournament on account of an inferior goal difference to those of third place teams that sailed through.
The Stars now face a spell of soul-searching going forward, hoping to internalise lessons learned from their campaign at the continental showpiece.
Kenyan players are now expected back into the country after Cameroon failed to defeat Benin for Harambee Stars to have a chance.
In spite of not making it through, Kenyan leaders including veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga congratulated the players.
All East African teams except Uganda have been bundled out.
