With President Uhuru Kenyatta expected to retire in 2022, the region is yet to settle on a defacto leader who will take over from him as kingpin.

The region has witnessed political chaos with the most recent being on Sunday when Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro clashed with Maina Kamanda in a church function.

But Ngunjiri, a fierce critic of Dr Ruto, insists that the DP is out to split the populous region for his own political gain. He said that Ruto is unapologetic about it.

"I personally hold William Ruto 100 percent responsible for the wars going on in Mt Kenya today. He has used his capacity to turn brother against brother, as he pursues a Presidency that’s over 3 years away. He has gotten us as leaders, and our people, fighting about him. And he’s happy to keep this fire burning," he argued.

Mr Nyoro was arrested briefly on Monday night but he has since been released without being charged in court. He held several rallies across Murang'a.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria criticised the Sunday’s public spat, saying it painted Mt Kenya region in bad light. He asked leaders from the region to be tolerant.

“Jubilee Kieleweke and Jubilee Tangatanga desecrated the House of God in Murang’a,” said Mr Kuria. “With more than 1,000 days to go before the next elections, the rest of the country is calm. One can be forgiven for assuming that the next elections will take place in Mt Kenya only,” he said.
