Saturday's trip to Bobasi constituency will be Deputy President William Ruto's eleventh in as many months to the populous Gusii region.

Last Saturday, Ruto pitched tent in Nyamira where he commissioned Kemera-Kiendege-Gachuba-Girango-Keumbu road before proceeding to the neighbouring Kisii County for fundraising event at Nyabururu Parish.

Youth coordinator in his office Antony Kibagendi says the trips are meant to identify honest campaign team besides swaying the narrative that it's an opposition stronghold.

"Kisii and Nyamira Counties will have around 1.3 million votes by 2022. Any serious presidential candidate cannot ignore it now that we are expecting a platoon of candidates in the election.

"We are moving around to do proper networking and identify our ground soldiers. We also want the region to sway from opposition to our side and that is now becoming evident," said the youthful politician.

Mr Kibagendi, Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka, Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko and Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose have been instrumental in coordinating Ruto's tours.

Last month, Ruto visited Nyaribari Masaba where he attended a fundraiser at Amabuko secondary school before touring Suneka a day later.

Previously, he toured Keroka and Rigoma in Kitutu Masaba, Sironga during the burial of Henry Obwocha and Tendere in Bomachoge region.

"It's about mentality and our people will vote you for your job. Do not tire coming back here. People have decided to play politics of development," Mr Mose said on Saturday.

Despite getting hold of virtually all elected leaders, Ruto has however struggled to seize governor John Nyagarama and James Ongwae if Kisii besides losing Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.
