Interpol has put Nicholas Mweri (44) and Samuel Bakari (29) on it wanted list over their alleged dealings in illegal wildlife trade. The two Kenyan brothers have been on Interpol's Red Notices list since 2016.

The two are accused of exporting 511 pieces of ivory which had been confiscated in Thailand in 2015.

The ivory which weighed 3,127 kilogrammes was worth Sh576 million.

Additional allegations against the brothers were published in a report in December 2018 where the two were accused of exporting elephants tusks from Kenya to Singapore in 2014.

Interpol holds that "Environmental crime is occurring on an industrial scale, with trans-national organised crime groups making billions in profits whilst undermining the rule of law and threatening national security."

As of 2018, 50 per cent of the wildlife traffickers who were wanted by the Interpol were established to have had ties to Kenya who either smuggle elephant tusks, pangolin scales or rhino horns.
