The county has been landing in the limelight during elections by giving an impressive amount of votes, mostly to presidential aspirants from the Mt Kenya region.

But in the results released on Monday, it was listed as having only 390,000 people, which Weda says is proof that some manipulation has been happening during election times.

"They used to steal elections. You see, when you build on a false foundation you must at the end come down," said the commentator, also a Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) member.

Weda made the remarks on KBC English Service on Wednesday morning.

The lawyer, however, called for calm, at a time when area leaders, led by Governor Muthomi Njuki, have dismissed the findings, threatening to petition them in court.

Weda pointed out that the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) had no reason to manipulate the census outcome, and what is listed is most likely the actual number.

"The census people had no reason to pick on Tharaka Nithi. The governor should not engage the exercise, he should think of returning extra monies given to him in allocations," he said.

Politicians from Kisii and Nyamira counties have also disputed the outcome, claiming that what is listed is lower than what should be the case.
