An Iranian passenger plane has ended up on its belly in a botched landing attempt after the pilot missed the runway, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has reported.
Thankfully, none of the 135 passengers on board sustained injuries or lost their lives in the freak mishap that happened in the south-western city of Mahshahr.
The Caspian Airlines airliner was brought down by the pilot when its landing gear was not properly out, local media outlets have reported.
"The pilot landed the aircraft too late and this caused him to miss the runway," aviation officials said, as quoted by the BBC.
The back wheel of the McDonnell Douglas plane broke away, a reporter who was on board said.
Law enforcement officers have launched investigations into the botched landing that occurred on Monday.
Iran's civil aviation safety record is not squeaky clean.
Few weeks ago, a Ukrainian plane was brought down by a surface-to-air missile said to have been fired by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
A video of the aftermath of the freak landing shared by the Guardian newspaper showed a traffic snarl-up on the highway on which the plaane landed.
Passengers are seen in the video being helped out of the crippled airliner.
