Jubilee deputy party leader William Ruto has revisited the handshake politics between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking on Thursday during an exclusive interview with NTV, Ruto praised the initial motive behind the handshake.
He acknowledged knowing its planning.
"The handshake was a wonderful idea by His Excellency the President and in fact for your information, before the handshake came to be, it was a discussion that His Excellency the President had discussed with me and we had agreed that it was necessary to bring the political temperatures down. The honourable Raila Odinga had reached out," DP Ruto said during the interview.
According to Dr Ruto, the ODM party leader reached out to him even before approaching President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Ruto said he does not regret turning down Raila's handshake offer noting that he had to leave the decision with his party leader and Head of State, President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"Uhuru Kenyatta being the President and being the leader of Jubilee, if there was any approach from any corner, it should be through him. For your information, every time Raila Odinga reached out to me, I informed His Excellency," he said.
The move forced the ruling party to split into two factions, one opposition handshake as others supported it.
