A section of farmers in Uasin Gishu County has applauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for appointing Peter Munya as Agriculture Cabinet Secretary.
This comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta while reshuffling his cabinet sacked former CS Agriculture Mwangi Kiunjuri.
Led by Uasin Gishu KFA director Kipkorir Menjo said Munya is best suited for the job and will help in dealing with farmers' issues.
“We want to congratulate President Uhuru Kenyatta for appointing Peter Munya as Agriculture CS, we have faith in him and we have no doubt that he will take the Agriculture sector to the next level,” said the Uasin Gishu KFA director.
Menjo who spoke to the press in Eldoret town on Tuesday called on all farmers to support the new CS as he finds a way of transforming the sector which has deteriorated.
“Munya is a person to whom we have worked with. We had initiated a fertilizer program under Cooperatives and now aligned to the Ministry of Agriculture which is your new docket. Let's fast track the process among other issues since time is not on our side,” added Menjo.
He further said that Munya has their support and is sure that their problems will be catered for since he (Munya) has the problems of farmers at heart.
Menjo called on the CS to ensure that farmers get the subsidized fertilizers on time for them to use it during the planting season since agriculture is the backbone of our economy.
