This is after it emerged that the legislators are planning to spend tens of millions to fund the trip.

The said amount is expected to cater for flights and accommodation of the lawmakers as they travel to the US. It is estimated that 85 legislators are anticipated to be part of the trip.

The lawmakers will be attending the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) in Nashville, Tennessee.

Raila questioned why the government is set to spend such colossal amount of money when President Uhuru Kenyatta-team is seeking for ways to cut the cost of operations at different levels.

MPs, MCAs, clerks and support staff will be accompanied by speakers from both houses as they leave for the US.

Odinga says he “finds no justification at all in Parliament and county assemblies sending such a huge delegation on a mission where a handful could come back with a report”.

The trip will reportedly cost the taxpayers nearly Sh100 million.

Besides the lawmakers, the team will also include Kipchumba Murkomen (Senate Majority Leader), Cleophas Malala (Senate Deputy Minority Leader), Jeremiah Nyegenye (Clerk of the Senate) and Naomi Shaban, who is the Parliamentary Service Commission vice-chair.
