According to Nation story, Kenyan teachers have been finding their ways into Somalia through fishy recruiters for Elm Schools, also known as Young Muslim Academy.

The teachers are promised what seems to be more than a greener pasture, but once they set their foot in the said schools, life becomes too hard for them.

Teachers who opened up to the publication said recruiters promise them a salary of not less than Sh50,000 per moth, free meals and accommodations plus a free air ticket.

That is what they get once they star working. 17 teachers who were reached over the same said they given understand accommodations, limited meals, sexually abused and limited freedom.

One teacher who is on his second year in Somalia land, call him Arnold (not real name for security concerns), said life becomes hard once you are employed.

“Life is very hard here. Too many lies when they are bringing you here. Salaries are deducted unjustifiably and when you ask about it, the HR threatens to terminate your contract.” says Arnold as quoted by Nation.

However, Elm Schools Human Resources Director Benson Samia refuted the allegations. He said teachers comfort is highly valued.

He added that being a private school, they don't encourage laziness among their teachers.

“We respect our teachers and their happiness, and comfort is our number one priority.

“We are in the business of moulding young minds and don’t condone incompetence or under-performance," he said.

Elm school was opened in 2007, and it being owned by a Kenyan, most of its teachers are from Kenya
