The county government of Kiambu has shut down 14 bars in Timboroa even as the war against the sale and consumption of substandard beer gains pace.
Timboroa Senior Chief Jacob Njehia on Saturday said owners of the bars shut will be required to apply for business licenses afresh.
Njehia said the bars will be vetted to establish if they qualify to run alcohol business before being issued with licensed.
"Our efforts to bring to close the sale of outlawed beer products are being frustrated by a few people who do not want to follow the law," he said during the operation that led to the close of the pubs.
"I am working in collaboration with other leaders in ensuring we save the youth who have immersed themselves in beer."
The operation came close to a month after Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu ordered bars in the county closed as his administration moved to fight alcoholism in the devolved unit.
The order came after the Kiambu County Assembly passed a law that seeks to regulate the manufacture, sale, and consumption of beer in the county that is ranked among counties with the highest rates of alcoholism.
Owners of bars in Timboroa were given until Thursday to file their applications for new licenses for their businesses.
