A 14- year-old girl has died after their residential house collapsed in Bulla Tawakal, Garissa.
The house caved in following a heavy downpour that pounded the area last night.
The raging flood has submerged most houses as helpless residents scampered for safety to a higher grounds.
A resident who identified himself as Noor has blamed individuals setting up structures in the waterway, consequently obstructing the smooth flow of the flood.
“The town lacks proper planning, people here have built on waterways and left no space for roads expansion.
Rescue team cannot access most houses because we selfishly grabbed road reserves,” Noor said.
The resident further faulted the poor draining system in the county, claiming should it not be fixed in good time might continue to wreak destruction of properties and loss of lives.
The Kenya red cross coordinator, Tusmo Ogle has urged those affected by the floods to move to higher grounds to avert any imminent danger.
