Cherangany Member of Parliament Joshua Kuttuny now wants the ruling Jubilee Party to shelve plans to hold party elections and focus on service delivery.

His sentiments come after Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju on Sunday declared that the party will be holding its elections in March next year, to bring in fresh leaders.

But Kuttuny, a member of the party, suggests that such would be needless, especially for a ruling party which is yet to realize even 50 per cent of its pre-election promise.

Speaking to the Nation on Sunday, he opined that the government should instead be given time to deliver on its promises as elections will result in a mixup of the two.

"As Jubilee members, we should ask ourselves if there is need for party elections at the moment; we have not actualised 50 per cent of our manifesto, we should give the government time to fulfil its pledges,” he said.

He added that if must be done, the elections must succeed an exercise to deal with those who have been disrespecting the party leader, President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He also backed a proposal to block members accused of involvement in corruption from vying for leadership slots during the elections.

He suggested that there is no way members accused if corruption can be allowed to vie for seats in a party led by Uhuru, who has been leading the purge on corruption.

"I challenge our SG to take action on those disrespecting our party leader before calling for elections. I also agree with him that any person with a graft case should be barred from taking part in the election because our leader has been in the frontline fighting corruption; hence as a party, we must lead by example," he added.
