Police in Kakamega County have launched a manhunt for a man accused of killing his 80-year-old father over food.
The 30-year-old man reportedly hacked the father using a jembe after a disagreement ensued over a plate of ugali and roasted maize in Shiswa village on Wednesday night.
The incident was confirmed by Shinyalu Sub County Police Commander Robert Makau, who said that the police are looking for the suspect after launching a probe into the same.
“We are doing everything to bring the suspect to book,” said the police boss, following reports that the suspect went into hiding immediately after the incident.
According to the suspect's brother Abraham Wakukha, the suspect has since turned into a criminal and had been bothering neighbours lately by stealing their property.
“Our brother has been engaging in suspect activities lately. He has been stealing from our neighbours,” he said.
He added that he is the one who stumbled on the body of the father upon returning home, expressing his shock regarding the brutal attack on the old man.
Neighbours said that the suspect who has been threatening to kill the father had proceeded to dig a grave within the homestead. The body of the deceased was moved to the Kakamega County General and Referral Hospital Mortuary.
