Kisii County Deputy Governor Joash Maangi said Duale must ensure Jubilee MPs back the referendum to amend the constitution.

"The constitution must be amended to reduce the burden on Kenyans. I am urging Duale to ensure Jubilee lawmakers rally behind Raila in pushing for the referendum," he said in Kisii town on Saturday.

According to Maangi, constitutional amendments don't target DP William Ruto's presidential bid in 2022.

The deputy governor urged him to play a role as the Jubilee leader in the National Assembly by urging MPs allied to the ruling party to support Raila in pushing for the referendum.

"The referendum doesn't target DP Ruto in his 2022 Presidential ambition. Duale must be at the forefront leading the Jubilee team to support the former prime minister in the referendum push," he stated.

He lauded Ruto for dropping his hard stance and agreed to support the referendum.

"The fruits of the handshake can be felt because DP Ruto changed his mind and supported the referendum. It is now Duale's part that is left to persuade Jubilee MPs opposed to the referendum to support it," he added.
