Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga has been told to keep off Mt Kenya politics.
The region increasingly becoming restless ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta's impending exit in 2022.
Uhuru, 58, is set to retire in 2022, and the absence of his automatic heir in Mt Kenya has led to high octane politics in the region.
After Uhuru's meeting with Mt Kenya leaders at Sagana State Lodge on Friday, Wanga asked leaders from the region to support the Building Bridges Initiative report.
However, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday took a swipe at Wanga, arguing that Mt Kenya's politics is quite different from Luo Nyanza politics.
“I have heard that woman called Glady’s Wanga claiming we were told [by Uhuru] we must support BBI. She should stop involving herself in Kikuyu affairs, she won’t understand,” he said at Dominion Chapel Ministries International, Kiserian, the service was attended by DP Ruto.
He went on, “Mt Kenya is not Luo Nyanza where things happen by force. When Baba [Raila] says something, it has to be done. In Mt Kenya, being cajoled is something we rejected a long time ago.”
Uhuru asked Mt Kenya leaders to stop premature campaigns against the Building Bridges Initiative report, adding that they will all get the opportunity to criticise it once it's out.
Wanga is one of the protagonists of the handshake between President Uhuru and Raila. She has been rallying leaders behind BBI report.
In a past interview, Wanga insisted that the DP William Ruto's foot soldiers have been at the forefront of pushing for the Punguzo Mizigo Bill which collapsed.
“They have supported it in his presence and he has never called them out for doing so,” she added.
